So I found the women who are standing up and being seen – 100 of them at the 2016 Women of Influence awards.

The event itself was pretty awesome, a celebration of women and their influence on our country and in the community they work with, I think there were just over 900 people in attendance, a few men wearing their black tie attire which is lovely. For me the opportunity to reconnect with friends, make new ones and share stories was fantastic – I do need to learn to not talk while taking a selfie!

DLA Piper sponsored my category Board and Management and treated finalists to a lovely cocktail event before we all walked up to the SkyCity Function centre in the massive New Zealand room. Something I have never experienced before, the happy voices of hundreds of women talking as we went up the elevator was amazing.

Please take the time to learn about these fabulous women, try to meet them and see how you can help them influence our world. The overall winner Helen Robinson spoke of how great our country is and what great shape we are in.

What impressed me the most and will stick with me from the event was Joan Withers talking about measuring ourselves by answering the question “Who did I help today”. Inspiring stuff.

Thanks Fairfax, Westpac, DLA Piper and all of the other sponsors for a lovely, inspirational opportunity. Vic.
